Products - Channel Access Unit (DSOA)

The Digilog CAU is an access product which dramatically simplifies and improves the wiring between DS0A circuits and all-points SS#7 monitoring equipment. It provides substantially lower installation costs and provides for multiple, isolated test devices for circuit data analysis. The CAU eliminates installation of “Half Taps” to connect test systems to the network.

The CAU is a member of the Digilog NAMS2000 product family and is designed to comply with NEBS requirements for central office equipment.

The product is uniquely designed to meet the requirements for circuit monitoring in SS#7 networks and interfaces to all-points currently being deployed for multiple applications. Its fault tolerant design makes it an ideal solution in Billing applications for this system. The flexible design permits operation with SS#7 monitoring systems from other manufacturers as well.

  PRODUCT FEATURES

• Low cost, scalable, modular design – may be installed at current circuit count level and expanded later

• Compact – high circuit density, single shelf replaces multiple units for similar function

• Fault tolerant design – hot swap of circuit cards and Power Supply

• Redundant Power Supplies (-48VDC)

• Dual composite clock inputs – auto switch to secondary on loss of primary

• Passive backplane permits easy maintenance

• Optional circuit isolation built in

• Meets NEBS requirements for Central Office Equipment

• T1 output waveform conforms to G703 regardless of number of devices connected

• DS1 Framing switch selectable - ESF/D3/D4

• CO standard alarms provided

• Front panel indicators for status and alarms

• Each shelf supports up to 128 4-wire DS0A circuits concentrated into 8 T1 Bearer circuits

  SHELF

Each chassis provides connectors for all DS0A and T1 circuits as well as connectors for Alarms and Power. Up to eight active circuit cards as well as one hot spare are provided. Two redundant Power Supplies provide power conversion from –48 VDC to +/- 5 VDC as required by the circuit cards. Form C alarm outputs are provided for critical alarms.

Mounting options accommodate 19 and 23 inch cabinets. Optional positioning of mounting hardware permit front, mid or rear mounting to accommodate the entire range of cabinets and relay racks found in switching offices.

Optional top and bottom deflectors provide for air flow and shelf to shelf isolation.

Chassis conforms to the Euro Standard. Height is 7U (12.2 inches)

  CIRCUIT CARDS

Each circuit card contains all required circuitry to concentrate 16 4-wire DS0A circuits into a single 4-wire T1 Bearer circuit. Each Card has 10 independently buffered appearances of the T1 Bearer circuit to accommodate up to 10 monitoring devices without “Half Tap” loading.

DS0A isolation resistors may be added to each of the 16 input circuits using jumpers on the circuit card.

Cards use sequential connections during plug-in and may be removed or inserted with chassis power on.

Input and output signals for each card are located on separate connectors to assure minimum crosstalk.

  POWER SUPPLY

Dual 100 W Switching Power Supplies using diode load sharing. Each supply is capable of handling an entire shelf. Input voltage 36 – 72 VDC typical 48VDC. Isolation Voltage meets VDE0871. EMI/RFI in compliance with FCC 20870 Class B and VDE 0871 B. Built in OVP, OLP and short circuit protection. Power Fail and status indicators.

  OUTPUT DATA

Channel Format - The output format is 16 2-wire T1 Bearer channels, each containing 16 2-wire DS0A Bearer channels. Output format has two modes. Mode one is provided for equipment in which the DS0A receive and transmit data for a given channel (link) is on one DS1 Bearer. Mode two is provided for other equipment in which all DS0A receive data from a group of DS0A circuits is on one DS1 Bearer and the respective transmit data is on a second Bearer.

Interface - Each DS1 Bearer output is individually buffered to maintain specific waveforms and impedance characteristics. All outputs meet G703 specifications for DS1 interfaces and line build out for 400 feet.

  NEBS

Meets requirements for central office equipment as defined in GR-63-CORE, GR-1089-CORE, and GR-78-CORE.

Accepted for use in the Bell Atlantic network.
